This is a common delusion that has been instigated by Satan and the fallen angels, along with ghosts, false gods and other delusions. S. Lewis' Space Trilogy. In the first book, "Out of the Silent Planet", man discovers an un-Fallen Mars (the "Silent Planet" is Earth, which Fell out of communion not only with God, but with the rest of the solar system). In Perelandra, the same guy is transported to Venus to witness (guard over?) that planet's own Adam & Eve and their temptation.RubeRadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06542479147492378996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3772414331480635861.post-58652638069441494292010-10-08T12:17:14.469-07:002010-10-08T12:17:14.469-07:00Thanks for a great article on a difficult, and oft...Thanks for a great article on a difficult, and often absurdly discussed subject, Dr. Byl.

I've found it amazing how people who talk about alien life always have a bunch of piggyback theology about sin, salvation, Christ, etc. that is highly suspicious, if not outrightly heretical.

It's no coincidence that talk of aliens, especially abductions, always come along with religious dialogue and ideas (that sound earily familiar). Alien life is an easy and hypothetical replacement for God that is often readily worshipped.

When people involved in the "space sciences" trumpet "We've found a 'Goldilocks' over here!" and start running amuck yelling "the sky is coming! The sky is coming!" and you discover their reasoning for their conclusion, you realize how utterly desperate their desire to believe in alien life actually is, and I wonder just how quickly they would offer their children to Ba'al if he showed up in the Millenium Falcon.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3772414331480635861.post-63080825623581457982010-10-08T10:05:55.753-07:002010-10-08T10:05:55.753-07:00Hi Dean & MSC

I concur that the Biblical evidence makes the existence of intelligent aliens extremely unlikely.

Yet I hesitate to assert it to be impossible.
Adam was to rule over the earth (Gen.1:26); his fall and the resulting curse concerned primarily earthly things (Gen.3). Prior to that, the fall of Satan and his angels had already brought sin into creation as a whole.

As I see it, we cannot absolutely rule out the possibility—-however remote it may seem—-that God created intelligent life on distant planets. Initially good, it may have been corrupted by Satan before Adam fell. Or, perhaps, they never fell, Adam’s curse did not significantly affect their planet, and when the universe is renewed they will come to live on the new earth. Or, perhaps, aliens are embodied forms of a certain class of fallen angels, banished to live on a remote planet in 3-d space. Or...

The point is that the argument against aliens is largely based on Biblical silence. But God's creation and purposes may be much more complex than we can imagine.John Bylnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3772414331480635861.post-83868967286721981282010-10-08T03:06:13.149-07:002010-10-08T03:06:13.149-07:00In Romans 8 Paul teaches that because of Adam'...In Romans 8 Paul teaches that because of Adam's sin the whole creation was subjected the futility. That would include outer space, and anybody or anything living there. In 2 Peter 3 we learn that one day God will destroy the whole creation by fire, the saints and holy angels excepted. But how could a just God curse and ultimately destroy intelligent, self-conscious aliens who have no racial connection with Adam, for whose sin these judgments fall? It seems to me that this argument, based on the justice of God and the man-centeredness of the cosmos, absolutely rules out the existence of intelligent alien life forms.Dean Davishttp://www.clr4u.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3772414331480635861.post-18860537316444302382010-10-07T09:50:23.926-07:002010-10-07T09:50:23.926-07:00"Theological considerations based on biblical..."Theological considerations based on biblical revelation weigh very heavily against the presence of aliens, but not conclusively so."

I would say the arguments you present pretty much close the door on the idea altogether.MSChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05419145542442539462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3772414331480635861.post-72903219856236563232010-10-07T08:43:46.352-07:002010-10-07T08:43:46.352-07:00if aliens exist, either they have not fallen from ...if aliens exist, either they have not fallen from grace or, less happily, like the fallen angels, they cannot be redeemed.

or they are not human - just animals, and salvation is not relevant to them.Henryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06242793531954844979noreply@blogger.com
